THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Revenue Department has launched an initiative to recover Government land and publish the latest status in all panchayats, Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran said. Participating in a meet-the-press organised by Thiruvananthapuram Press Club here on Thursday, Mr. Rajendran said the Revenue officials have been directed to publish the latest details of the land leased out to clubs and other institutions and how it is being utilised by them. This is aimed at recovering vast tracts of land in the possession of various organisations. The drive will be completed within six months. The digital resurvey system introduced in Thycaud village will be extended to two villages each in the 14 districts and all over the State in a phased manner. This system is expected to expedite the resurvey process. Steps will be taken to rectify the lapses in revenue collection. It has been found that only 10 per cent of the flats have been assessed. The rest will be assessed as part of the drive to increase revenue collection. An ordinance on Special Protection Zone will be issued. A land utilisation policy is also on the anvil, he said. The Government has made all arrangements to conduct cases in an efficient manner. As many as 36,500 title deeds have been issued till April 30. A one-day drive to issue 50,000 title deeds in all districts will be conducted in September. Steps have been taken to conduct the 26,800 cases related to the7,000 acres excess land in an efficient manner. The department will also undertake a programme to provide land and house for the homeless poor, he said. The department has given directions that the poor and the tribals should not be targeted in the drive to recover Revenue land from encroachers. The eviction drive in Munnar is progressing in the right direction and there are no complaints about the taskforce. He denied the charge that the CPI office in Munnar was located on encroached land. The party has title deed and the charges are baseless, he said. The drive in Munnar was a collective decision of the Cabinet and the LDF. The Revenue Department has taken the lead in the operation, Mr. Rajendran said.
