Saji Narayanan to attend ILO meet

PALAKKAD: National vice president of Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) Saji Narayanan will represent the organisation in the meeting of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) beginning from May 29 in Switzerland. The Indian delegation to the ILO meeting will be led by Union Labour Minister Oscar Fernandez, the BMS press release here said. — Staff Reporter

Kadammanitta flays purification rites

THRISSUR: Poet Kadammanitta Ramakrishnan has criticised the purification rites performed at the Sreekrishna temple in Guruvayur after the visit of Ravi Krishna, son of Union Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi. Participating in a discussion on "creativity and challenges" at the Kerala Sahitya Akademi on Thursday, Mr. Ramakrishnan said that priests should feel sorry for such rites that insulted devotees. - Staff Reporter

BIS raids plywood shop in Malappuram

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With a view to checking the misuse of ISI mark, the Thiruvananthapuram branch of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) conducted a search on the premises of a plywood trader in Edavanna, Kunnummel, Malappuram district recently. During the search, evidence with regard to misuse of the ISI mark on plywoods was found and action is being taken against the trader.

Entrance test results today

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The results of the entrance examinations for admission to the engineering and medical courses in the State for the year 2007 will be released at 11 a.m. on May 25. A press note issued by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations here said the results would be released at the PR chamber at the Secretariat by Education Minister M.A. Baby. The results will be available on the web sites `www.keralaresults.nic.in' and www.results.kerala.nic.in.' The results will also be made available at the following web sites by 1 p.m. on May 25: www.kerala.gov.in, www.prd.kerala.gov.in, www.cdit.org, www.results.kerala.gov.in, www.keralacm.gov.in and at www.keltron.org, the press note added. — Staff Reporter

KPCC constitutes committee

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) has set up a sub-committee to study the spread of chikungunya in Pathanamthitta and Kottayam districts, said KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala. It will visit the affected places. The committee chaired by Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan and consisting of Joseph Vazhakkan, K.C. Joseph, Adoor Prakash, K. Sivadasan Nair, P. Mohanraj, Peelippose Thomas and Malethu Saraladevi will hold its first meeting in the Pathanamthitta DCC office at 1 p.m. tomorrow. — Special Correspondent

Endosulfan victim dead

KASARAGOD: J. Renjini, Mullacheriyidukkom House, Bovikkanam, who was suffering from diseases caused by the excessive use of the pesticide Endosulfan in the cashew plantations of Plantation Corporation, passed away on Thursday. She was undergoing free treatment provided by the State Government. — Staff Reporter

Legislative secretaries' meet

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A conference of Secretaries of Legislative Bodies of the country was held in the Legislative Complex here on Thursday.

Lok Sabha Secretary General P.D.T. Achari, who inaugurated the conference, briefed the secretaries about the noteworthy achievements since the previous conference held in Raipur in November 2005. Rajya Sabha Secretary General Yogendra Narain, Kerala Legislative Assembly Secretary N.K. Jayakumar and Secretaries of various State Legislatures attended the meeting. Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee will inaugurate the two-day conference of presiding officers on Friday. — Staff Reporter
