INSPECTION: Members of the Joint Legislature Committee headed by A.T. Ramaswamy set up to look into encroachment of government land inspecting Judicial Layout, near Yelahanka, in Bangalore on Thursday.
Bangalore: The Joint Legislature Committee for set up to identify encroachment of government land in and around Bangalore on Thursday detected encroachment of seven guntas of prime land belonging to the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike in the Majestic area, worth over Rs. 2 crore. Committee Chairman A.T. Ramaswamy and members inspected the place adjacent to Government Ayurvedic College at Ananda Rao Circle along with senior officials of various government agencies. They also inspected a layout formed by an employees' house-building cooperative society at Allalasandra in Bangalore North taluk, near Yelahanka, on Bellary Road and found serious violations under various laws of not only the Bangalore Development Authority and the Palike but also the departments of Cooperation, Revenue and Urban Development. R. Roshan Baig, P.S. Raghu and Vishwanath Patil Hebbal, MLAs, and officials, including Special Deputy Commissioner of Bangalore Urban district Rame Gowda accompanied the Chairman on the inspection.
Fake khatas
With reference to the encroachment in the city centre at Majestic, Mr. Ramaswamy told presspersons that five persons of one family had been given fake khatas by Palike officials. The officials had destroyed the register and land records of the land, he said, adding that legal action would be initiated against them. The unauthorised occupants of the land would be evicted. He said that the land in question was part of 6.37 acres granted by the then Princely State of Mysore in 1943 for the college. The family has been given a joint khata by the Palike. He said land measuring 250 ft x 100 ft had been allegedly encroached upon by a hotel in the same area and it was being investigated.
Rules violated
In the case of the housing cooperative, Mr. Ramaswamy said the society had not only violated rules, but also judgments of the Supreme Court and the Karnataka High Court in allotting sites. While it had acquired 156.26 acres out of about 190 acres legally, conversion procedures had not been done for 33.27 acres in which the society had allotted sites on agricultural land without a title deed in its favour. The Chairman also wanted the Government to register criminal cases against officials of various government departments for colluding with the housing society concerned. The Government should also supersede the society, he said.
