Two shot dead by naxalites in Bihar

Motihari: Two persons were shot dead and as many injured by suspected CPI (Maoist) naxalites in Bihar's East Champaran district, police said on Thursday.

Nearly 100 rebels of the banned outfit descended on Maniarpur village under Rajepur police station of the district around midnight and shot dead two persons identified as Laxmi Narayan Kunwar and Nandu Singh, Superintendent of Police Sunil Kumar Jha said.

Two others wounded in the firing have been hospitalised.

Tension

The SP said a prosperous farmer Maheshwar Singh was shot dead by Maoists a couple of years ago in which some persons from the same village having links with naxalites were named accused.

There was simmering tension in the village ever since.

The naxalites had come looking for Umesh Singh, brother of Maheshwar, and when they did not find him, they shot dead Laxmi Narayan Kunwar, a relative, and Nandu Singh, a witness in the murder case of the slain farmer. -- PTI
