Job mela in Kadapa from May 29

KADAPA: Kadapa Municipal Corporation will conduct a `job mela' at Government Arts College here from May 29 to 31, Municipal Commissioner S. Aleem Basha said on Thursday.

Those interested may get their names registered in Balaji complex on Madras Road by paying a fee of Rs. 20. — Staff Reporter

Awareness rally

ANANTAPUR: A total sanitation awareness campaign was flagged off by Zilla Parishad Chairperon T. Kavitha and District Collector D. Kadmiel here on Thursday with a view to creating awareness among people and sarpanches by the 17 `nirmal gram purasakr' awardee sarpanches.

The campaign would be held in two phases for 20 days each by the award winning sarapnches, the Collector said.— Staff Reporter

Rain brings relief

KURNOOL: Kurnool city and other places in the district received summer showers bringing down the mercury on Friday. The showers, accompanied by gales, caused some damage at Srisailam on Wednesday night. Temporary structures like sheds and huts were damaged. However, the showers provided much relief to people from sweltering heat.— Special Correspondent

Triplets born

KADAPA: A 28-year-old woman Rajasri gave birth to triplets in a private hospital here on Thursday. The triplets included two girls and a boy. The doctors declared the mother and children healthy, the new-borns' father Rajasekhar said.— Special Correspondent

Two electrocuted

KURNOOL: Two persons were electrocuted in different incidents in Kurnool district on Friday. According to reports, Ramakrishna (28) at Kunnur in Gonegandala mandal and Allabakash (55) at Adoni died when they touch wet electrical poles.— Special Correspondent

Red sanders seized

KADAPA: Forest officials seized 71 red sander logs, valued at about Rs. 1 lakh, from Nagasanipalle forest range in Mydukur mandal on Thursday.

The seizure was made on a tip-off that the red sander logs were kept ready for transportation, according to forest mobile party official Buden Saheb.— Staff Reporter

Pension released

KADAPA: A sum of Rs. 2.71 crore has been released to disburse pensions to 1,35,675 persons in Kadapa district, district Collector M.T. Krishna Babu said on Thursday. Staff Reporter

Liquor seized

Madanapalle : Ten litres of illicit liquor and 200 sachets of liquor was seized by Excise Circle Inspector Govinda Naik in raids conducted here on Wednesday. The persons possessing the liquor belonged to Karnataka and were absconding. — Correspondent

Two burnt alive?

ADILABAD: A person allegedly burnt alive his wife and nine-month-old son in Kairigaon of Rebbena mandal on Thursday. Suspecting wife Kaveri's fidelity, he allegedly poured kerosene and burnt them when they were asleep and fled the spot. - Staff Reporter

More B.V.Sc seats

GUNTUR: The number of seats in the Bachelor of Veterinary Sciences (B.V. Sc) had been raised from 370 to 500, Minister for Animal Husbandry Mandali Buddha Prasad said here on Thursday. He said 500 to 600 posts of vet doctors were lying vacant. - Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: The APPSC exam for recruitment of lecturers in polytechnic (engineering and non-engineering) will be held in Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Tirupati and Warangal on June 26. 3 killed in accident

Maritime school in HSL

VISAKHAPATNAM: Hindustan Shipyard Ltd. (HSL), the country's premier shipbuilding centre, will soon house a maritime school under the proposed Maritime University in Tamil Nadu. N.
