Power for remote areas

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Government will provide electricity in 149 dhanis in the Shivalik Hills region during the current financial year at a cost of Rs.1.65 crore, Minister of State for Forests and Tourism Kiran Choudhry said here on Thursday.

She further disclosed that the Hooda Government was committed to provide electricity in each and every household and the Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electrification Scheme was being implemented on priority.

Out of the total cost of Rs. 1.65 crore, Rs.86 lakhs was being provided by the Central Government, Rs. 41 lakhs by the State Government and the remaining by the Shivalik Development Board.

She recalled that it was her father-in law Bansi Lal who had in 1970 provided electricity to the people residing in far- flung areas of Morni Hills.
