ANANTAPUR: Bankers in the district have been urged to renew existing crop loans and sanction new ones to farmers adequately for the coming kharif season. They have also been asked to give education loans to meritorious students from poor families liberally. Speaking at the district-level consultative committee meeting of bankers here on Wednesday evening, Collector and chairman of the committee D. Kadmiel asked the bankers to participate in `Rythu Chaitanya Yatras', being conducted by the State Government, to sanction loans to beneficiaries of `Indiramma' and extend financial assistance to Government schemes. The Collector said that farmers availing of crop loans up to Rs. 50,000 need not produce `no dues certificate' and self-declaration would be enough. He directed the bankers not to delay opening of accounts for housing scheme beneficiaries. He complimented them for achieving 110 per cent of the target of the annual credit plan during the last financial year.
Stamp duty waived
On the objection raised by several bankers that some farmers were taking loans from them even after availing the facility from DCCB, the Collector said the DCCB would give a list of its borrowers to avoid the problem. He also informed the meeting that the State Government had also waived the stamp duty on crop loans. Responding to the Collector's suggestion to give loans to leaseholders of farmland this time, the bankers said they would require lease certificate for the purpose.
