NEW DELHI: Consumers in the Capital who are sceptical of the performance of the electricity meters installed by the power distribution companies can now get their meters examined by a team of experts from the Central Power Research Institute. The Delhi Government's Power Department has sought the help of CPRI experts from Bangalore to carry out a meter testing drive in the city to address the growing concerns over fast running meters. "The drive will commence from May 28 and those consumers who are interested in getting their meters rechecked can do so by putting in their request at the public grievance cell," said Principal Secretary (Power) Rakesh Mehta. The on-site checking of meters will be carried out over a period of six months and the consumers will have to pay for the services. "Initially the drive will continue for six months, but depending on the demand from consumers it can be extended also. Customers will have to pay Rs.50 for a single-phase connection and Rs.100 for a multiple phase connection to get their meters checked," Mr. Mehta said. The discom officials in whose area of operation the drive will be undertaken will accompany the CPRI team. The discoms will have to replace the meters if they are found to be faulty.
