Collector warns of stringent action against illegal constructions

  • 34 cents under 60 cases recovered
  • Separate task force to evict encroachments in Kunnathunadu taluk

KOCHI: The Ernakulam district administration has evicted 136 encroachments spread over seven taluks in its recent drive to recover revenue land.

This was announced at an emergency meeting of the Regional Development Officers, Tahasildars, surveyors and other officials convened by District Collector A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish in his chamber on Thursday afternoon.

The Collector said 12 establishments, which were found encroaching on revenue land up to the area near Bank junction, would be demolished. He warned that stringent action would be taken against encroachers in the district in the coming days. He said 34 cents under 60 cases were yet to be recovered in the city.

Mr. Hanish said more surveyors would be deployed in the district for the drive to detect encroachments. He said complaints regarding encroachments on backwaters and canals, including Thevara-Perandur canal, Chilavanoor canal and backwaters in Konthuruthy, would be examined in the coming days.

He said survey in the area stretching from Banerji Road to Kaloor would be strengthened. He ordered the eviction of all encroachments in the area from Kamaalakadavu jetty to the beach after serving 24 hours notice.

In this context, Mr. Hanish said those requesting time to take corrective measures on their own as per the Government direction would be granted 3 days while other encroachers would be given only 24 hours notice.

    Notice to be served

Those constructing flats and apartments in Kakkanad after encroaching on canal on the Government land would be served notices.

He said a separate task force would be deployed to evict encroachments in Kunnathunadu taluk. Emergency steps would be taken to evict encroachments in Perumbavoor and on Periyar.

He said that kayal (backwater) porambokes would be decided by the respective panchayats.
