KOCHI: Public response against the hartal by traders on Thursday was sharp with many encouraging the district administration to go ahead with the drive against illegal encroachments. It was coincidental that a convention against hartals was also held in the city on a day when traders downed shutters. "Hartals are against the provision of right to live guaranteed by our Constitution. Such protests act against the right of an individual to move freely," said former judge P.K. Shamsuddin. `Hartal Virudha Munnani' State co-ordinator Chandrababu said the State suffered a loss of about Rs.750 crore due to a hartals.
