NEW DELHI: Four pavement-dwellers, including two children, were crushed to death and a woman sustained serious injuries at Patel Nagar here on Thursday when a huge boulder being removed by an earthmover accidentally fell on them. The victims were sleeping on the pavement. According to the police, the mishap took place around midnight at Shadipur when work for widening of a road was in progress. The dead have been identified as Kamla (40), Nandura (18), Ajay (12) and Soni (11). Ajay and Soni are siblings. Seventy-year-old Chaggu who was injured has been admitted to Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Hospital. Her condition is stated to be serious. The victims were rag pickers from Rajasthan. The incident led to tension in the area with the slum-dwellers raising slogans against the police alleging inaction and demanding arrest of the driver.
