Police on trail of two `drug peddlers'

NEW DELHI: The Narcotics Branch of the Delhi police is on the trail of at least two persons who allegedly supplied drugs to Saim Siddique, arrested along with former Indian cricketer Maninder Singh at Preet Vihar here on Tuesday for allegedly being in possession of 100 gm of charas.

During interrogation, Saim purportedly disclosed that he used to supply drugs only to Mr. Singh as he was his close friend. It is learnt that the police have also not come across any evidence indicating Saim's involvement in drug peddling. Saim told the interrogators that apart from Aslam, who was arrested by the Narcotics Branch in March, he used to buy drugs from two other persons, both Indian nationals, in the Capital. At his instance, the police have mounted raids and are hopeful of tracking them down soon.

Girl falls to death

in a hotel

NEW DELHI: A two-and-a-half-year old girl was killed when she fell from the third floor of a hotel at Nabi Karim here on Thursday.

According to the police, Utkala was playing with her siblings in a room of Jindal Hotel when she suddenly slipped and fell down from the window. She died on the spot. "The children were jumping off the window onto a bed in the room and their parents were also present," said a policeman.

`Notorious criminal' arrested

NEW DELHI: A notorious criminal carrying a reward of Rs. 2,500 on his head and involved in several cases of robbery and murder has been arrested at Karkardooma here.

Acting on tip-off, Devinder was arrested near a petrol pump in East Delhi on Wednesday evening while he was waiting for his accomplice. One country-made pistol and two live cartridges have been seized from him, the police said. During interrogation, he purportedly confessed to his involvement in several criminal cases including a double murder case registered at Muzaffarnagar.

Man held on murder charges

NEW DELHI: A 24-year-old man has been arrested by the Special Cell of the Delhi police for his alleged involvement in several cases of murder, extortion and kidnapping. He carried a reward of Rs.10,000 on his head.

Acting on a tip-off, Pushpender alias Ajay, a resident of Muzaffarnagar, was arrested by a team constituted under the supervision of ACP Sanjeev Kumar. During interrogation, Pushpender purportedly told the police that he committed his first murder in 2004 to avenge the death of his father who was allegedly killed by his neighbours over a trivial issue.

Alleged gang leader of bag-lifters held

NEW DELHI: A 45-year-old man has been arrested by the South Delhi police for allegedly running a gang of bag-lifters operating in the Capital and the neighbouring areas. A Santro car, video camera and bank passbooks have been recovered from his possession, the police said.

Based on a complaint by a South-Delhi-based jeweller Rahul Sharma, a police team arrested Kamal Sharma in Jammu on Monday.
