Masjid blast: one held in Maharashtra

Arunkumar Bhatt

MUMBAI: A special squad of the Hyderabad police on Thursday arrested a resident of Rehmanganj in Jalna town of Maharashtra in connection with the Hyderabad mosque blast on May 18. The blast claimed over 10 lives.

Police sources in Jalna confirmed the arrest of Shoaib Jagirdar but refused to give details. They also did not confirm or deny that Jagirdar was suspected of involvement in supply of explosive material.

Jagirdar was known as a social activist in Rehmanganj but recently the local police had registered a case of vehicle theft against him.

A newspaper reported from Jalna on Friday that the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of the Maharashtra Police tipped off their Andhra Pradesh counterparts that Jagirdar was in Hyderabad on the day of the blast.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police of the ATS Subodh Jaiswal, however, told The Hindu that they had nothing to do with the arrest.
