Extension of detention flayed

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The CPI on Saturday condemned the extension of house arrest of Aung San Suu Kyi by another year. In a statement, the CPI central secretariat urged the Centre to take up this matter with the rulers of Myanmar.

``For more than a decade, she has been kept under detention and Myanmar's people have been denied democratic rule. We urge the Government of India to take up this matter with the rulers of that country and make a strong plea for revoking the detention order and for restoration of democracy in Myanmar,'' the party noted.
