Bomb blast disrupts border trade

Correspondent

IMPHAL: The legalised border trade between India and Myanmar at Namphalong has been disrupted since Friday afternoon following a bomb attack in a hotel. The military of Myanmar has sealed the international border.

Reports reaching Imphal said that some persons were having tea and snacks at "You & Me" hotel when a powerful bomb was detonated at 3 p.m. Several rounds of gunshots were also heard. Three persons were wounded.

An unconfirmed report said that one person succumbed to the injuries.

This is the second such attack. In the earlier attack last year the hotel owner and his wife were seriously wounded.

Soon after the Friday's incident both the international gates were closed by the military. A few hundreds of Indian tourists and traders were stranded. Senior officials of the two countries held a meeting after which the people were allowed to return to Moreh, Manipur. Officials said that there is a heavy presence of insurgents of the Northeastern States at Namphalong and other townships of Myanmar.
