Budget for sports to be hiked

PMRY to be transferred to Youth Services Department

HYDERABAD : Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy has directed the officials to increase the budget provision for youth services from Rs. 70 crore to Rs. 140 crore and that of the sports from Rs. 20 to Rs. 30 crore.

At a review meeting here on Saturday, Dr. Reddy said the subject of PMRY (Prime Minster's Rozgar Yojana) of the Industries Department must be transferred to the Youth Services Department to give further boost to its programmes.

Earlier, presenting a report, S. N. Mohanty, principle secretary of Youth Services and Sports, said 35,000 youngsters had been covered under Rajiv Yuva Shakti (RYS) programme so far. A comprehensive survey would be conducted to identify prospective RYS beneficiaries, he said.

He said the venture of Godavari Vihar Tourism boats in West Godavari district in which 30 tribal youths were partners and Akruthi paper bags unit established in Visakhapatnam were two major success stories of youth.

Training

The Chief Minister directed the officials to go in for a massive training and employment programme to impart new skills among the youth with the assistance of various industrial groups and training centres.
