AMW rolls out its global truck series

Drivers can beat the stress in A/C cabins with FM music


  • Target of 5,000 trucks set for this year
  • The price range is from Rs.15 lakhs to Rs.28 lakhs

    VISAKHAPATNAM: Asia MotorWorks Ltd., (AMW), the latest entrant in the heavy commercial vehicle industry and the first to launch higher tonnage vehicle of 49 tonnes, on Saturday showcased its `global truck series' tractor, tip-semi trailer, tipper and haulage vehicles in the city.

    Talking to media persons on the occasion, managing director and CEO of AMW, Anirudh Bhuwalka, said the series was a new generation trucks with an amalgamation of the world's most advanced automotive technologies. The trucks come with higher horsepower but still are fuel-efficient. An interesting aspect was that they had air-conditioned cabins where the driver could take rest, listen to local FM music and relax. The price range was Rs.15 lakhs to Rs.28 lakhs. The investment of the company was to the tune of Rs.500 crores and the Bhuj plant in Gujarat State had capacity to produce 10,000 vehicles in a year. "In the first year we sold 1,000 trucks, 170 of them in Andhra Pradesh. We have set a target of 5,000 trucks this year," he said. Andhra Pradesh accounted for about 25 per cent of the tipper market and Visakhapatnam was the second city after Hyderabad where the AMW trucks were launched, he said.

    Mr. Bhuwalka said that the gearbox was imported from Germany while all other parts were indigenous and freely available in the country that was important for servicing and repair of vehicles. The number of dealers in the country were being increased from the present 26 to 40.

    Senior vice president (marketing) of AMW, R.C. Mangal, and Visakhapatnam dealers G. Ranga Rao, Gowri Shankar and G. Babu Rao of D.R.D. Trucks India Pvt. Ltd., were present on the occasion.
