CHENNAI:
Every two-wheeler rider should voluntarily wear helmets and should not wait for the June 1 deadline, said Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Sunil Kumar here on Saturday.
Speaking to reporters after flagging off an awareness rally on "Use of Helmets and Fixing of Rear View Mirrors," organised jointly by the Human Rights Organisation and the Chennai Traffic Police, Mr. Sunil Kumar said that helmets protected the rider as well as pillion from fatal accidents, especially, when the motorist met with a head injury.
The former Judge of the Madras High Court, Justice T.N. Vallinayagam, presided over the launch of the rally, which commenced from Rajarathinam Stadium and passed through Teynampet, Cenotaph Road, Kotturpuram, Adyar, Greenways Road, Santhome High Road and culminated at the Marina.
About 100 members on two-wheelers, sporting protective helmets, participated in the rally.
