Colleges accept 50:50 formula

Staff Reporter

Annual tuition fee at Rs.38,700

KOCHI: The Self-financing Engineering College Managements' Association on Saturday announced that they were ready to admit 50 per cent students in their institutions as government quota. The remaining seats will be filled on the basis of a rank list prepared by taking into account the marks of Class X, XII and Score 1 in the Common Entrance Test conducted by the Commissioner of Entrance Examinations.

Association president G.P.C. Nayar said the managements would collect Rs.38,700 as annual tuition fee in 100 per cent of the seats. The decision to allot 50 per cent seats to the Government was taken on the basis of the talks held between the Association's representatives and Education Minister M. A. Baby.

Mr. Nair said the Association had accepted the recommendations made by the Fee Regulatory Committee headed by former judge P.A. Mohammed on the annual tuition fee for Rs.38,700.

He said that private engineering colleges under Christian managements would take a decision on the admission process after holding talks with the Inter-Church Council. The Association meeting held here on Saturday accepted the request made by the Christian managements that their decisions would be based on the discussions at the Inter-Church Council.

About 17,800 seats are available in 49 engineering colleges affiliated to the Association. Individual managements will issue advertisements explaining the admission process in the 50 per cent seats at their discretion. Students will have to submit their applications at the colleges of their choice.
