Suspensions will help party, says Pinarayi

Staff Reporter

Lauds work of State Government in its first year

Pinarayi Vijayan says the dignity of the party is above his personal pain.

KASARAGOD: "The disciplinary action taken by the CPI(M) Polit Bureau against me and Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan will benefit the State party unit greatly," party State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan said on Sunday.

On Saturday, the Polit Bureau decided to suspend Mr. Vijayan and Mr. Achuthanandan from it for criticising each other in the media.

At a public meeting at Kelakam village after inaugurating the E.K. Nayanar memorial building of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) local unit, Mr. Vijayan said the message was that everybody in the party should work subject to the command of the party. "Violation of party discipline will not be tolerated," he said.

Mr. Vijayan said that in the recent past, party leaders in the State had made references not conforming to the style of functioning of the party, which worked on Leninist principles. The Polit Bureau's decision proved that the CPI(M) had a strong leadership working on Leninist ideals. "The PB used its power in the right manner and the party will go forward approving it," he said.

He said the disciplinary action would remove some weaknesses in the party and strengthen it. Personally, he felt some pain being subject to such action. "Till now, I had not been subjected to any such action regarding work in the party," he said. "But I am happy that the present disciplinary action had raised the dignity of the party and the dignity of party is above my personal pain."

Media criticised

Mr. Vijayan said some of the media had been indulging in wild dreams that would not happen. The media syndicate, a small clique of journalists, was going all out to malign the State Government and CPI(M).

One person who was with the party had been giving tips to journalists to misreport news related to the CPI(M). He had been ousted from the party, but became active again recently.

He said the recent efforts of the Government to vacate public land at Munnar of encroachers had the full support of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the CPI(M).

"Mr. Achuthanandan, LDF convener Vaikom Viswan and I visited there," he said. "In the press conference held after the visit, I had demanded that all illegal constructions be demolished."

"My opinion was made before the Government appointed a special task force for eviction, but efforts were made by the [media] syndicate to portray that there were difference of opinion in the CPI(M) and the LDF regarding action in Munnar," he said.

Lauding the one-year rule of the Government, Mr. Vijayan said people had begun saying that this was the Government that they had expected. The signing of an agreement on Smart City at Kochi, eviction of encroachers at Munnar, formation of an Agricultural Debt Relief Commission and steps taken in the education sector proved that the Government was implementing the promises made by the LDF during elections, he said.

Uduma MLA K.V. Kunhiraman presided. Mr. Vijayan arrived at Kasaragod from Mangalore in the morning. He refused to meet the media in the morning.
