Power shutdown today

CHENNAI: Power supply will be suspended between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Monday in the following areas: Perungudi Industrial Estate, Perungudi, Kandanchavadi, East Coast Road, Injambakkam, Palavakkam, Neelankarai, Kottivakkam, Thoraipakkam and parts of Old Mahabalipuram Road.

Free health camp held

Hindu Mission Hospital on Sunday conducted a health camp in TTC Nagar, Adhanoor, near Guduvancheri. About 200 persons were screened, of whom 11 identified for free eye surgery, and three for general surgery.

RTOs to meet public Monday to Friday

The Transport Department has instructed all Regional Transport Officers to be present at their respective offices between 10 a.m. to noon (Monday to Friday) to meet the public.

The instruction came after several complaints from the public that the officials were not available in office. Public Relation Officers can also be approached for assistance, a Transport Department release said.

Registration dates for tax exemption

Public charitable trusts or religious institutions that register under section 12A of the Income Tax Act, for claiming exemption from the levy of income tax, on or after June 1, 2007, would get the exemption only from the financial year in which the application is made.

For tax exemption for earlier years, they have to submit their applications before May 31, if not already done, said a press release from the Office of the Chief Commissioner of Income Tax.
