COIMBATORE: Teachers should create awareness among students about the importance of conserving natural resources since it is the prime factor that will govern the preservation of our environment, A.K. Kumaraguru, Professor, School of Energy, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai, said here recently. Addressing a valediction of the 21-day refresher course in environmental studies for college faculty at the UGC - Academic Staff College of the Bharathiar University, he urged the participants to use conventional designs for housing that facilitated natural lighting and ventilation. He listed various resources that had been abused by man, which led to the degradation of the eco-system. R. He highlighted how energy was acquired through fire and hydro systems from the environment. The demand for energy was more and the gap between production and demand was getting bigger, he said. "The alternative energy, which is solar energy, is the solution to cater to the high demand." R. Saravana Selvan, Director of the UGC - Academic Staff College, also spoke.
