BANGALORE: The Yeshwanthapur police on Sunday arrested Halaswamy (25), said to be a follower of Honalli MLA M.P. Renukacharya, on the charge of making a threatening call to nurse Jayalakshmi. The police said Halaswamy runs an eatery at his house in Hunsehalli village in Honalli taluk in Davanagere district. Halaswamy was reportedly upset over the sexual harassment complaint lodged by Ms. Jayalakshmi against Mr. Renukacharya in the Chandra Layout police station here. After he found Ms. Jayalakshmi's mobile number in a Kannada daily, Halaswamy telephoned her from his village on April 23 and threatened to kill her for making "false allegations" against the MLA. He had claimed that he was a relative of BJP MP for Davanagere G.M. Siddesh, the police said. As Ms. Jayalakshmi was giving an interview to a private Kannada channel when Halaswamy called her, the entire conversation between them were recorded and aired by the channel, the police said. Subsequently, Ms. Jayalakshmi, a resident of Platinum City in Yeshwanthapur, lodged a complaint with the Yeshwanthapur police. During interrogation, Halaswamy claimed that he had threatened Ms. Jayalakshmi as he was upset over she damaging the reputation of the MLA of his constituency, the police said.
