Over 1 lakh files pending: Patil

Special Correspondent

H.K. Patil

BANGALORE: Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council H.K. Patil on Monday said the administrative machinery in the State had collapsed and over 1.41 lakh files were pending before the Government for clearance.

Addressing presspersons here, Mr. Patil said all development projects had come to a standstill on account of the administrative inexperience of Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy. But the Chief Minister was criticising the style of functioning of a section of IAS officials for the delay in the execution of schemes. A total of 1,41,793 files were awaiting decisions in various departments.

Nearly 71,000 files had been pending before the Government for the past year, he said.

Instead of criticising the officials, Mr. Kumaraswamy should devote time to clearing the files.

Sugarcane glut

The Government was responsible for the crisis faced by sugarcane growers in Belgaum, Bidar, Bijapur and Gulbarga districts. Many sugarcane farmers had committed suicide because of the glut in the market and factories stopping crushing operations, Mr. Patil said.

Asked about election campaign in Goa, he said the former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda was trying to divide the votes of Kannadigas by fielding Janata Dal (S) candidates in the Legislative Assembly elections there. He hoped that the Kannadigas in Goa would vote for the Congress since the previous Bharatiya Janata Party government had adopted "anti-Kannada policies".
