VILLUPURAM: The recruitment for police constable posts began at the armed forces grounds at Ka.Kuppam near here on Monday under the supervision of Inspector-General of Police (Railways) Sanjay Arora, Deputy Inspector-General of Police (Villupuram range) G.K. Vanniabperumal and Superintendent of Police K.Periaiah. The police department had sent call letters to a total of 16,145 candidates in Villupuram and Cuddalore districts. These included 6,815 men and 2,036 women in Villupuram district, and 5,739 men and 1,555 women in Cuddalore district. The police sources said the selection process, being conducted in batches, would go on till June 21. On the first day, after the verification of certificates and physical measurements, the candidates were asked to run 1500-metre dash. The selection process for women candidates would begin on June 15.
