CHENNAI: Telecom service provider Reliance Communications has come out with a new lifetime validity recharge option, while rival operator Tata Indicom announced attractive pricing for a new feature-rich handset. Both announcements have brought down the base cost of going mobile. Reliance followed up the recent launch of feature-rich handsets at Rs.777 in a bid to shake up the pricing levels in the mobile instrument market with a Rs.499 recharge scheme. A subscriber who opts for the scheme will get incoming calls for upto 15 years as against 10 years offered by most operators (as determined by the duration of their remaining licence period). By recharging with the Rs.499 option, the subscriber gets Rs.20 free talk time and only needs to recharge with a total of Rs.125 every three months in order to stay active. Lifetime validity clients can also avail of STD call cards that offer full talk time and call rates of Rs.1 per minute. The cards are available in denominations of Rs.115, 225, 675 and 875. The new recharge option is available at e-recharge outlets.
`Samsung Hero Nxt'
Tata Indicom, meanwhile, introduced the `Samsung Hero Nxt', the sequel to the popular `Samsung Hero' phone. The new phone is sleek, feature-rich and is priced at Rs.999. Subscribers have a choice of starter kits such as Go Active (Rs.499) with a one-year validity and free 1,500 minutes, Go Speak (Rs.299) with a 6-month free incoming feature and Go Easy Plus (Rs.199) with 30 days validity and double talk time on all recharges of Rs.100 and more for the first three months.
Attractive features
The Hero Nxt model has features such as anti-theft tracker and emergency SOS alert, where the user presses the `C' key four times to automatically send SOS messages to pre-selected 10 numbers in the memory.
