Prakash halts Krishnan's dream run

Kodaikanal: Grand Master-elect G.B. Prakash halted the dream run of Ram S. Krishnan of BSNL in the eighth round of the 55th Kodaikanal Institute of Technology Tamil Nadu State chess championship by defeating him in 42 moves at Kodaikanal on Monday.

In the second board, S.P. Sethuraman of Chennai tactically outplayed district-mate Vinoth Kumar to share the lead with Prakash and Ram Krishnan at 7 points each at the end of the eighth round.

Seven players, R. Premnath, R. Arun Karthik, K. Priyadarshan, S. Nitin, M. Shyam Sundar, P. Saravanakrishnan and P. Karthikeyan closely follow them with 6.5 points each.

Sathya scores hat-trick

A hat-trick by Sathya helped Thirunagar Hockey Club, Madurai, post a comfortable 3-1 victory over Rajapalayam Hockey Club in the inaugural match of the sixth annual Antony Memorial Trophy State-level hockey tournament organised by Indus Hockey Club at Panchampatti near Dindigul on Monday.

Sathya scored in the 22nd, 27th and 28th minutes, while Saravanan reduced the margin for Rajapalayam Club in the 57th.

In another match, United Sports Club, Uthagamandalam, trounced St. Mary's Hockey Club, Dindigul, 4-0. All the goals came in the first session. Hari Prasad (6th), Shanmugam (8th), Rajkumar (19th) and Edwin (20th) scored.

Win for Chenthil

Chenthil of Billiards Kingdom beat Anil of Pot Black Center 51-39, 60-40 in the inaugural match of the third annual District-level snooker tournament organised by Pot Black Center at Madurai on Monday.
