UAE asked to lift ban on poultry imports

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: India on Monday asked the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to eliminate trade barriers to improve bilateral trade, besides seeking removal of ban from import of poultry products and permission to Indian banks to open their branches in the Emirates.

At the first meeting of the India-UAE Trade Policy Forum, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Kamal Nath sought removal of trade barriers, including registration guidelines, restrictive work permits and visa regime relating to import of pharmaceutical and chemicals and allied products. On his part, the UAE's Minister of Economy, Shaikha Lubna Al Qasimi, referred to India's anti-dumping measures on UAE products and companies, besides raising matters relating to the successful establishment and implementation of a joint venture alumina project in Orissa.
