KOLKATA: An eight-member Indian recurve bow squad, comprising four men and as many women, is in the fray in the XX Golden Arrow tournament which will form the third leg of the Meteksan archery World Cup beginning at Antalya in Turkey from Tuesday. India, which took part in the first leg held at Ulsan in South Korea in April, skipped the second leg held at Verese in Italy owing to poor showing of the Indians in the previous tournament. Except Dola Banerjee, who finished sixth overall, the rest men's recurve bow, men's and women's compound bow failed to match expectations. The Archery Association of India (AAI), instead, provided competition at home by organising the second ranking prize money meet at Pune earlier this month which formed the basis for selection for the Antalya championship. Sources in the AAI revealed that the Indian contingent would not be participating in the fourth and final World Cup leg to be held at Dover in England from July 31 to August 5. They said that the Indian squad would definitely take part in the 44th World championship to be held at Leipzig in Germany from July 7 to 15. The Indian team for the Leipzig meet would be named after the third National ranking prize money championship to be held at Kolkata from June 11 to 15. Tarundeep Rai, Rahul Banerjee, Priyank and Harish Chand Kerai will represent India in the men's recurve bow event at Antalya while Dola Banerjee, L. Bombayla Devi and Chekrovolu Swuro along with Punya Prabha will take part in the women's recurve competition. Punya replaced Sushma from the Ulsan team. The AAI has also decided not to send the compound teams to Antalya but confirmed their participation in the World championship. The official practice and opening ceremony of the third leg of the World Cup are slated for Monday. Competitions will be held from Tuesday to Saturday.
