DINDIGUL: Five persons were injured when two heavy vehicles collided and rammed a traffic signal tower and traffic signal control room on Palani Road Junction in the early hours of Monday. The accident took place, owing to rash driving and rampant violation of traffic rules, said the police. When a van proceeding to Singampuneri from Palani approached the Palani Road Junction to enter Dindigul, a State Express bus going to Salem from Marthandam too tried to pass the junction to reach the Thadikombu Road. Earlier, the bus driver took a diversion at Yanai Theppam near Begampur and came on the opposite side of the West Car Street, one way, in order to avoid entering the Central Bus Stand. The van driver, who did not expect a vehicle at the junction from the one way, dashed against the bus and rammed a traffic signal control room on the north eastern corner of the junction. In the impact of collision, the bus, which was to scheduled to pass through the Thadikombu road turned towards Dindigul-Palani main road and crashed into a traffic signal tower, said the police.
