Apprentice teachers' service regularised

HYDERABAD: The Government has issued orders regularising apprentice services of teachers making them eligible for the automatic advancement scheme (8/16/24 years). The GO 38 issued on May 26, would benefit 75,000 apprentice teachers financially to the extent of Rs. 32.72 crore.

The dues would be credited to the teachers' GPF accounts, said AP Progressive Recognised Teachers' Association leaders K. Venkat Reddy and P. Ravi Kiran. - Special Correspondent

AIR phone-in programme

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad `A' station of All India Radio will conduct a phone-in programme on `farm loans, nationalised banks and farmers problems' on May 29.

S. L. Nageswara Rao, chairman, State-level Bankers' Committee, will reply to queries by farmers on telephone numbers 23232080, 23244834, 23244836. The programme will be broadcast on May 30 at 7.15 p.m. in `Illu Vakili'.

Man kills wife, hangs himself

ANANTAPUR: A man hacked his wife to death suspecting her fidelity and later hanged himself in Navodaya Colony here in the wee hours of Monday. According to the police Narayanaswamy (34), practising as a registered medical practitioner and Padmavathi (28) were married for the last six years and had no children. - Staff Reporter

Industrialists to donate Rs. 40 lakh

KURNOOL: Industrialists offered to donate Rs. 40 lakh to the educational fund proposed by the Collector to support the education of meritorious students. All those students of Government schools who scored more than 500 would be admitted to corporate colleges. Pennar Cement offered Rs. 10 lakh, KPS Green Energy Rs. 5 lakh, Rayalaseema Alkalies Rs. 5 lakh. Also, the industrialists proposed to raise another Rs. 5 lakh. T.G. Venkatesh proposed to give Rs. 5 lakh from Exhibition Society. - Special Correspondent

MRPS dharna for public toilets

KADAPA: MRPS activists and women staged a dharna before Proddatur Municipality office on Monday demanding construction of public toilets in Yerrannakottala in Proddatur town. Neither the Government nor municipal officials initiated any action to construct public latrines sanctioned two years ago, MRPS leaders Balanna Madiga and Lakshmaiah Madiga alleged. Staff Reporter

Man `kills' wife

KURNOOL: A woman identified as Subhadramma (20) was axed to death allegedly by her husband Narayana at Enugumarri near Dhone in Kurnool district on Monday. Suspicion about her fidelity was said to be the motive for the murder. Special Correspondent

120 affected by diarrhoea

KURNOOL: Diarrhoea broke out at Rudravaram in Kurnool district affecting 120 people. The condition of five of them was reported to be serious. Contamination of water source is believed to be the cause. Heath teams were deployed in the village. Special Correspondent

Christian Council takes out rally

KURNOOL: Members of All-India Christian Council led by district president A.R. Daniel took out a rally here on Monday and presented a memorandum to the Government urging protection to Christians in the country.

The delegation met Collector M. Dana Kishore and urged the Government to repeal the anti-conversion law . Staff Reporter
