ANANTAPUR: Village administration is the first step in the ladder of governance and development of villages is crucial as more than 70 per cent of our population lives there, District Collector D. Kadmiel stated here on Monday. Speaking at a workshop on `Awareness on panchayat raj system' organised for sarpanches of Anantapur, Rapthadu and Bukkaraya Samudram mandals, he said the Government had conducted elections to sarpanches on non-party basis as development of villages would assume great significance in the growth of a nation.
Monitoring schemes
It was a must for sarpanches to get awareness on rural development so that they could monitor different schemes properly. He suggested that the sarpanches forget their party affiliation once the election is over and work for all without any signs of favouritism. After handing over financial assistance to 19 youth and women's groups, the Collector said development of villages would become much easier with the cooperation of youth and women groups. The Collector also felicitated freedom fighters Gutti Ramakrishna and J.C. Ranaganayakulu, commemorating 150 years of the First War of Independence, 1857. District Panchayat Officer P. Nagaraju, Nehru Yuva Kendra coordinator S. Amrutha Prasad, B.C. Study Circle director M. Jayaraj, SKU professor Govindappa also spoke.
