Dacoity at bank

Staff Reporter

BHUBNESWAR: About Rs. 12.96 lakhs was snatched from a customer who came to deposit the sum at Dhenkanal branch of UCO Bank on Monday.

The dacoity took place around noon when Assistant Manager of Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) S. K Sahoo along with a peon had come to deposit the cash and cheque for Rs 1.78 lakhs in the bank.

As soon as the peon entered the bank with the bag, an armed miscreant grabbed the bag while firing two rounds in the air from his pistol, police said.

Subsequently, he ran out from the bank and decamped with his two accomplices who were waiting on a two-wheeler.

Blast bombs

The robbers also blasted two country bombs outside the bank to scare the onlookers.

In March last, armed robbers had taken away at least Rs 2.20 crores from Bank of Baroda, Barbil in Keonjhar district.

In the previous month, one person was killed and five others were injured by a gang of dacoits who had taken away Rs 23.47 lakhs from the staff of a nationalised bank in Bhadrak town.
