KOTTAYAM: The Special Task Force (STF), engaged in the drive against encroachments in Munnar and adjoining areas, has served eviction notices on Kanan Devan Hill Produces (KDHP) Co. Ltd. for encroaching upon the Kochi-Madurai National Highway No. 49. The notice was issued as per provisions of the National Highway Act. The hearing on the notice is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon following which further course of action will be decided. The STF had scrutinised the encroachments from Pallivasal 2nd Mile to Munnar. According to STF sources, the encroached area in the first nearly a kilometre alone will come to about three acres. The area in this stretch has been marked for resumption. In another development, the STF staff who went to the Dhanyasree Resorts, which has been served notices for encroachment on the Kerala State Electricity Board land, were prevented by the staff of the hotel from entering the premises. They maintained that they had received an interim injunction against the action. Following this, Special Officer K. Suresh Kumar arrived with reinforcements and the situation was brought under control without delay. The STF staff later marked the encroached areas. A case was filed against the staff of the hotel, including its manager, by the police. The STF, which cancelled one of the title deeds related to the Dhanyasree Resorts on Sunday, cancelled yet another on Monday. With this, two title deeds for four cents each, on which the resort stands, remain cancelled.
