Held for helping gangster

CHENNAI : The Periamet police on Sunday arrested a 44-year-old man on charges of helping Vellai Ravi, a gangster wanted by the police.

Police said H. Shabeer Ahmed was residing in a flat on E. K. Guru Street, Periamet.

Last week, when Vellai Ravi and his associates kidnapped one Raj Kumar, a businessman, Shabeer Ahmed allowed the gangster, his associates and the victim to stay in the flat.

Police said that as a manager of the complex, he allowed them to stay without the knowledge of the owner of the building.

They also seized two sabers from the flat. Further investigation is on.
