CHENNAI: Inter-state cooperation on sharing of information on mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue and chikungunya and joint control measures have been proposed in the four southern States in preparation for monsoon months. This was decided at a meeting of directors of public health and vector control of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Pondicherry in Chennai. Andhra Pradesh and Kerala officials were unable to attend but confirmed that they would adopt the new strategy worked out on Monday. District entomologists from border districts were also present. Border districts in Tamil Nadu, including Nagercoil, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Theni and Vellore, will be on high alert in the coming months. Local officials will have to share information on disease incidence with their counterparts across the border. It was also resolved that when it came to containment in areas that lay in between two states, both states would cooperate. Mosquito and larval density monitoring will be done and intimations will be sent out once the density goes above the approved limit, according to sources at the Directorate of Public Health.
