Suicide bid

Parvathy (45) of Pollachi attempted to commit suicide at the collectorate on Monday morning. She came to collectorate doused herself in kerosene and attempted self-immolation. The police stopped her. Inquiries revealed that Paravathy was trying to draw the attention of the authorities towards an alleged attempt by a group to grab her house site given by the Government. She accused the authorities of having failed to act on her earlier appeals.

Case against 21

Race Course Police have registered a case against 21 bus passengers on Sunday for intercepting a State Transport Corporation bus and forcing the driver to operate service to Madurai. According to police, Balakrishnan (35) of Singnallur along with 20 other passengers boarded a TNSTC bus from Madurai that reached Gandhipuram bus stand around 2.30 p.m. and insisted that the bus should be operated to Madurai. Based on a complaint by bus driver Gopalakrishnan the police registered a case.

Council meeting

The meeting of the Coimbatore Corporation Council will be held at the Corporation main office on Big Bazaar street on May 31 (Thursday) at 10.30 a.m. Mayor R. Venkatachalam will preside, a release from the Corporation Commissioner, P. Muthuveeran said.

Grievances meeting

The farmers grievances meeting for the month of May will be held on May 31 at 10.a.m. at the District Development Council hall of the Collectorate. Collector Neeraj Mittal would chair the meeting. Farmers are requested to avail of the opportunity to voice their grievances.
