Coimbatore: Fifth Judicial Magistrate Vijayarani on Monday granted conditional bail for 83 All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) cadre including five MLAs arrested by the City Police at Selvapuram on May 21. On May 21, the 83 AIADMK cadre including five MLAs, V. Jayaraman (Pollachi), S.M. Velusamy (Palladam), S.P. Velumani (Perur), T. Malaravan (Coimbatore West), R. Chinnasamy (Singanallur) were arrested by the police when they attempted to resist a drive by the Corporation to evict an AIADMK women's wing mandram on 15 cents of Corporation land at Selvapuram in ward number 53. The agitators accused the authorities of evicting only the AIADMK mandram and ignoring the encroachments by other parties. The arrested AIADMK functionaries were remanded in custody. The court on Wednesday rejected a bail application by the arrested AIADMK cadre following objections from the prosecution that the arrested persons would tamper with witnesses. However, one of the arrested persons was granted bail on medical grounds. When the fresh bail application came up for hearing on Monday, the court granted bail for 82 persons with condition that they should sign at Sathyamangalam police station every day.
