TNSTC depot

I would like to bring to the notice of the Managing Director, Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC), (Coimbatore division), the poor facilities provided to the crew in the new Vilankurichi depot on Argus-Vilankurichi Road. This site is involved in litigation. As a result, even TNSTC is not keeping the site clean. Ten buses halt here every day. The crew has no safety because of bushes everywhere in its premises. TNSTC does not maintain these buses in this depot. I request TNSTC (Coimbatore) managing director to shift all the 10 buses to their original depots.

N.R. Ravisankar,

Vilankurichi.

Prison life

While releasing the book `Inside Prisons' by Dr. C.K. Gandhirajan, Police Commissioner, Coimbatore, (May 27), Justice P.D. Dinakaran of the Madras High Court reiterated that prison was a place for transformation and no stigma should be attached to a person who underwent jail sentence.

While none can dispute his contention that imprisonment is meant for transformation, criminals who are jailed face stigma.

The views expressed by the author are revolutionary. It sounds absolutely reasonable when he suggests that 20 per cent of the wages earned by the prisoners can be disbursed to victims of those who are jailed.

K.D.Viswanaathan,

Thadagam Road.

`Branded' water?

It is a usual scene at meetings held by the Collector, the Mayor or other civic authorities - branded mineral water placed before them. I wonder why don't these officials, who are responsible to provide clean drinking water to the public, have faith in Siruvani or Pilloor water. At least they can hide the brands and keep the water in glass tumblers, in the presence of cameras!

V. Jeevananthan,

N.H. Road.
