NEW DELHI: Posting excellent annual results, Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) on Monday announced a major expansion programme that includes opening of new CNG stations, oil-marketing companies' outlets and addition of 70,000 new consumers under the Piped Natural Gas initiative. An official spokesman said that as part of the expansion plans, IGL has begun construction work in Greater Noida for opening a new CNG station. The laying of pipeline network in Greater Noida has already started and the first CNG station is expected to be operational there by the end of 2007 increasing the CNG penetration. Action has also been initiated to expand to neighbouring towns of Ghaziabad, Sonipat and Panipat for which no objection certificates have been received from the respective State governments. The spokesman said a number of new sites for CNG stations have already been identified and requests have been made to the authorities concerned to make necessary allotments. To make the presence felt on the domestic front, 70,000 new consumers are envisaged towards PNG expansion during 2007-08. The spokesman said the company's gross turnover went up to Rs. 705.86 crore during 2006-07 as compared to Rs. 600.18 crore during 2005-07, showing a growth of 17.6 per cent. Profit after tax increased to Rs. 137.96 crore from Rs. 106.13 crore during the previous year, registering a growth of 30 per cent. IGL has a well laid out its city gas distribution infrastructure in Delhi consisting of around 1,000 km of pipeline.
