Elephant owners warned

Staff Reporter

Thiruvananthapuram: Minister for Forest Benoy Viswom, who inaugurated a week-long training programme for mahouts at Agasthyavanam Biological Park, Kappucad, on Monday, had a stern message to elephant owners who harass the animals for pecuniary benefits. Visibly upset over the poor turn-out for the training programme, the Minister told elephant owners that if they are not prepared to mend their ways and treat the animals with dignity and respect by sending mahouts for the training programme, then the Government would be forced to make them change their ways. The programme aims at creating a shift in the way in which elephants are handled.
