Letters to the Editor
The government's decision to introduce legislation to provide social security to workers in the unorganised sector in the monsoon session of Parliament is welcome. Modern technology, instead of giving more rest and leisure to workers, is being used to replace human labour. A skilled worker of yesteryear has become unskilled in the computer era. The government should also introduce a comprehensive relief package for the unemployed.
M.J. Ruben,
* * * GDP growth rates and economic prosperity will remain meaningless as long as the working conditions of our farmers and workers in the unorganised sector are not improved. The creamy private sector can be asked to donate a portion of its profits for the implementation of welfare schemes. The rich who have become richer, thanks to the LPG policy, have a moral responsibility towards their less fortunate brethren.
R. Ponnarassi,
