BANGALORE: This one is for new-age jazz fans. The Max Mueller Bhavan is hosting a vocal jazz concert by Michael Schiefel, who has made a name for himself in the international jazz circuit.

Inspired by a desire to join the emerging post-Wall jazz scene, Mr. Schiefel moved to Berlin in the early 1990s to study at the city's renowned University of the Arts. Since then, he has dazzled his fans at home and abroad with an array of solo and band projects that have yielded a dozen albums over the past decade.

To date, he has released three solo albums. His first work, "Invisible Loop" (1997), was hailed as one of the most promising debut albums of the decade. His second release, a more introspective album entitled "I Don't Belong" (2001), met with equally critical acclaim.

His latest solo album, "Don't Touch My Animals", came out in September 2006. The album features songs about love and life in the big city and between the continents. In all of his solo projects, Mr. Schiefel experiments with his distinctive virtuoso voice by combining it with loop machines and other electronic devices.

Mr. Schiefel performs on Friday at 6.30 p.m. at the Max Mueller Bhavan, 716, CMH Road, Indiranagar 1st Stage, Bangalore - 560 038. Entry is free.
