Iboyaima Laithangbam

IMPHAL: Seven persons have been gunned down in separate incidents in Nagaland and Manipur.

Police reports said a 53-year-old man Sanasam Jugeswor was shot dead at Langol Tarung here on Monday night. Two elderly persons were kneecapped. A few days ago, a man was gunned down at the same place. Police suspect that they might have been killed by militants in connection with a dispute.

Insurgents of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Isak-Muivah) and the Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN), both opposed to peace talks, are locked in a fierce gun battle in the State. On Monday, three FGN and two NSCN(I-M) insurgents were killed in an exchange of fire at Khezhakeno village, about 15 km from Phek town. An NSCN (I-M) cadre was seriously injured. The NSCN (I-M) claimed that it recovered a semi-automatic rifle from one of the slain insurgents.
