Anuj scores hat-trick for GHMC

HYDERABAD: Striker Anuj's hat-trick was the highlight of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation's emphatic 7-0 win over Old Alwal in the Gotla Cup (under-16) football tournament, organised by Gotla Football Academy, at the Gymkhana Grounds here on Tuesday.

GHMC shot into lead thanks to a brace from winger Lawrence very early in the first session. Before the break, Sebastian latched on to a neat through ball to make it 3-0. In the second session, Rohan increased the lead through a fine solo effort.

Then Anuj took charge and struck thrice in quick succession to record the first hat-trick of the event.

St. Patrick's posts win

St. Patrick's High School scored a six-wicket win over St. John's Coaching Foundation in the first semifinal (under-11) of the fourth Paradise Persis Gold Cup sub-juniors cricket tournament here.

The scores: (Semifinals) U-11: St. John's CF 118 for nine (Chaitanya 34, Chandrasekhar three for 24) lost to St. Patrick's HS 122 for four (Sanjay 33, Nikhil three for 20).

U-13: Sportive CC 104 for eight (Nikhil three for 15, Nikhil Deep three for 27) lost to St. John's CF 105 for two (Chaitanya 31).

Zainab in last eight

Zainab Ali Sajjad of Hyderabad entered the girls' singles quarterfinals of the Asian junior-ranking tennis tournament after prevailing over Vishesh 6-4, 6-3 in the pre-quarterfinal in Pune on Tuesday, according to information received here. Zainab met with success in the doubles pre-quarterfinal too. Zainab and her partner Shruthi Jaiswal beat Spruti and Pallavi Krishnan 4-1, 4-1.

Sarojini CA posts win

Sarojini Cricket Academy scored a 61-run win over Alfred Cricket Academy in the under-13 category of the all-India Pepsi Cup sub-juniors cricket tournament in Bangalore, according to information received here.

The scores: Sarojini CA 158 (Naren 68, Akshay 31, Harshith three for 47, Deepak three for 49) bt Alfred CA 97 (Harshith 32, Naren three for 15, Nitesh Yadav three for 18).

Tennis tournaments

Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh would organise the third Twin Cities mini and junior tennis tournament from June 7 for boys and girls (U-10 and 12 years) at the Lal Bahadur Tennis Complex here. Surya Tennis Foundation will organise the AP State mini-junior tennis tournament from June 2 to 5 for boys and girls (U-10 and 12 years) at Pallavi Model School (Bowenpally). Entries close by May 31 and details can be had from A.R. Rao at 92463 68494.
