Inzamam, Younis valuable to us: PCB

Karachi: The Pakistan Cricket Board has dismissed suggestions that senior batsman Younis Khan had violated the board's code of conduct by refusing to lead the team after the World Cup.

Younis refused to accept the captaincy after the World Cup, saying he wanted to concentrate on regaining his form and spend the season with English county Yorkshire.

He also turned down an offer to play in the recent Abu Dhabi series against Sri Lanka.

``Every player has the right to decide if he wants to be captain or not. It is his personal right and I don't think Younis committed any code of conduct violation when he did not accept the captaincy,'' PCB chairman Dr. Naseem Ashraf said.

Ashraf said that Younis, a prolific scorer for the team in recent years, would be considered for selection for upcoming events.

``Whenever he is available to play for Pakistan he will be considered for selection as he remains a valuable player for us,'' he added.

Meanwhile, former captain Inzamam-ul-Haq was told by the board that he could still continue to play Test cricket if he proved his form and fitness.

Ashraf said that Inzamam still remained a valuable player and if he was fit he could continue to play Test matches.

``He will be considered for selection when our next Test series comes around. But, the final decision of selecting him or not lies with the national selection committee,'' he said. — PTI
