NEW DELHI: Underworld don Abu Salem was on Monday remanded by a local court to four days' custody of the Special Cell of the Delhi police in connection with an extortion case in which Romesh Sharma is a co-accused. Salem was produced in a court after completion of his seven days' custody in an extortion case. He had allegedly demanded Rs. 1 crore from South Delhi-based businessman Rajat Nagrath. The court sent him to 14 days' judicial custody in that case, but on the request of the Special Cell, it granted his four days' remand for interrogation in another case of attempted extortion. The case that was earlier being investigated by the Crime Branch has now been transferred to the Special Cell. It pertains to a conspiracy allegedly hatched by Salem and Romesh Sharma in 1998 to extort money from some businessmen.
