UPA-Left meet on June 6

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Congress, the Left parties and some members of the United Progressive Alliance will meet here on June 6 to take a final view on the presidential candidate.

After preliminary discussions, initiated among the UPA constituents and the Left parties on Monday, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi said he would return to the capital in the first week of June for another round of consultations.

Sources in the UPA said on Tuesday that leaders from the Congress, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, the Rashtriya Janata Dal, the Nationalist Congress Party and the Left would meet on June 6. The sources indicated that the names doing the rounds were primarily from the Congress.

Both the DMK and the Left parties have said the candidate chosen by the coalition should be able to win in the event of a contest.
