TAMBARAM : A 50-year-old man died after he was hit by a suburban train while crossing the track on a moped at a closed level-crossing in Chromepet on Tuesday his wedding anniversary day. N. Narayanan was on his way to meet his wife at her mother's house, where the couple planned to celebrate the day. A resident of Kuppusamy Street in Pazhavanthangal, Narayanan was a technician in the ECG section of Voluntary Health Services (VHS), Adyar, for 20 years. Married to Uma, he has two children Karthik, a final-year engineering student, and Dinesh, doing commerce course. When Narayanan reached Chromepet around 12.40 p.m., the level-crossing near the Vaishnav Women's College was closed. He got down, squeezed himself under the gates and pushed the vehicle forward. He got past the first track, but did not notice the train on the second track approaching from Pallavaram. Following the accident, the motorman of the train and gatemen informed the personnel on duty at Chromepet. A train bound for Beach, which was about to leave Chromepet, stopped at the spot. Gatemen and passers-by put Narayanan in one of the compartments. At Park station, he was rushed to the Government General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The Railway Police in Tambaram are investigating.
