Cable operators told to air all DD channels
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI:
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Tuesday directed cable operators across the country to air all Doordarshan channels.
In a statement here, the broadcast regulator said it had come to its notice that some cable operators were not following the notifications issued by Prasar Bharati. "Non-compliance of these notifications by the cable operators is leading to poor reception of these channels in different areas, while there have been reports of total blackout of Doordarshan channels in some cases."
As per the Prasar Bharati notifications, certain Doordarshan channels are required to be carried in the prime band and others in the non-prime band, TRAI said.
All cable operators are required to follow the Prasar Bharati notifications as per the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995.
The latest directions had been issued to protect the interests of the viewers, TRAI said, and warned the cable operators of strict action if all the Doordarshan channels were not aired by them.
